1984 Sikh Genocide: Balwan Khokhar’s Bail Plea Rejected by Delhi High Court

:dateline:A Delhi High Court bench comprising of its acting Chief Justice Geeta Mittal and Justice Anu Malhotra on February 23 rejected the bail plea of murder convict Balwan Khokhar. Notably, Khokhar had sought interim bail from the Court on medical grounds. Khokhar had claimed in the petition that he got injured on December 17 in jail so he wanted to get treatment from Sir Ganga Ram Hospital for fracture on his nose.

The Delhi High Court said in its verdict that Balwan Khokhar was being given best treatment in Tihar Jail on government expenses so there seems no reason for granting him interim bail on medical grounds.

It may be recalled here that the Court had questioned Balwan Khokhar in last hearing by saying, You are getting the best treatment from to five hospitals for your ailments at government expense while the people outside suffering from serious ailments were able to get treatment from only one such hospital. There is nothing critical or life threatening in it, then why should we grant you an interim bail?.
