Ropeway Project for Hemkunt Sahib Fails to Start Two Years After Approval from Union and State Govt.

DEHRADUN, Uttarakhand, India—Despite getting approved by the Union government of India and State government of Uttarakhand two years ago, the ropeway project planned for the hilly Sikh shrine Sri Hemkunt Sahib has not been initiated till date. Notably, the ropeway project from Govind Ghat to Sri Hemkunt Sahib was proposed by Sri Hemkunt Sahib Management Trust and was given nod by the Indian government and Uttarakhand’s state government in 2015.

Speaking with Sikh24, Vice President of Sri Hemkunt Sahib Management Trust S. Narinderjit Singh Bindra said that he has made numerous appeals to the Uttarakhand’s Chief Minister and Tourism Minister in written, as well in personal meetings, but there was no development on behalf of Uttarakhand’s government in this concern.

S. Narinderjit Singh Bindra further said that the pilgrim’s count will increase rapidly with this ropeway project as the old-aged and physically weak pilgrims will get smooth access to Sri Hemkunt Sahib. He also expressed concern over the inordinate delay in initiation of this project while the gates of Sri Hemkunt Sahib will be opened for pilgrims May 25.

The entire project is estimated to cost Rs. 51 crores and it will be carried out in two phases on the Public Private Partnership mode. The ropeway will cover distance of around 21 km.

  1. It is stupid to waste money on this project which has no religious significance. Just think about the stupidity of this so called holly place. Guru Gobind Singh ji was not born there and never visited that place in his lifetime. Sikhs don’t believe in myths This whole thing is perpetuated by anti Sikh forces who are bent on establishing that Guru Gobind Singh ji was a pujari of Hindu deities . It is a crying shame that Sikhs are falling into this trap.
