Court frames rape charges against former Akali minister Sucha Langah

GURDASPUR, Punjab—Former Akali Minister Sucha ‘Singh’ Langah, who is currently lodged in jail under rape charges, was produced before the Court of Gurdaspur’s Additional Session Judge Prem Kumar on February 14. Langah’s bail plea moved by his legal counsels Advocate Karanjit Singh and Advocate H.S. Basra; however it was rejected by the court.

After going through the reports of Forensic Laboratory and other documents against Langah, the court also framed rape charges under section 376 of Indian Penal Code against Langah.

Earlier, Langah has also moved a petition in the Punjab & Haryana High Court seeking interim bail on medical grounds. He has told the High Court that he has to undergo bypass surgery of Heart from the PGI, Chandigarh. The Punjab & Haryana High Court has asked the PGI authorities to submit report about Langah’s surgery.

Earlier in October 2017, Langah was excommunicated from the Sikh community by the SGPC appointed Takht Jathedars. The Sarbat Khalsa appointed Jathedars had excommunicated him as well.

In a two hours meeting at Sri Akal Takht Sahib on October 5, 2017, the SGPC appointed Takht Jathedars Giani Gurbachan Singh, Giani Harpreet Singh, Giani Iqbal Singh, Giani Raghbir Singh and Head Granthi Giani Jagtar Singh deliberated upon the immoral act of physically abusing a helpless woman committed by Sucha Langah.

Addressing the decree from the Supreme Sikh throne, Giani Gurbachan Singh had directed the Sikh community to socially boycott Sucha Langah. He also directed the SGPC to suspend Langah from all the positions held by him.
