O human! Of all efforts, the best effort is to reflect on the Name of the Divine within your heart. -Guru Arjan Sahib, Guru Granth Sahib, 266

Message: When attempting to accomplish any task, or learning something new, one has to put in focused effort in order to succeed. Our quest to get closer to the Divine requires a similar effort. This takes time and energy. This has to be a constant and an ongoing task. In everything that we do and in every step that we take, the Divine presence needs to be felt. This effort, the Guru says, is the best effort.

To gain an understanding of the role of the Divine in our lives is a tremendous and continuous effort. Many are hesitant in putting in this effort because time is taken away from other more interesting worldly activities. Furthermore, one may not see the results in tangible ways.

Etymology: Blend of udam from Sanskrit udyam (act of raising, striving after, exertion, endeavour, occupation) + bhalaa from Sanskrit bhall (auspicious, good).
