Gurbani Word Of The Day: daan

ਦਾਨੁ (daan)

Meaning: noun: Gift.

Quote:

sabh kichh tumrai haath prabh   aap kare karaae.
saas saas simrat rahaa   naanak daan paae.
O Master! Everything is in Your hands, You Yourself do and cause others to do everything. With each and every breath, may I continue to remember You – grant me, the Nanak, this gift. -Guru Arjan Sahib, Guru Granth Sahib, 745

Message: Precious gift
Which is a true gift? Moderation or lavishness?

Let us learn to be content even if we are not rich. Let us release our greed for more worldly possessions, which we are unlikely to use.

Why crave for what others have? No one knows how one’s fate can turn in time. Life is short. Learn to cherish and enjoy each day of life with whatever comforts we have. Big or small.

Etymology: From Sanskrit/Pali daan (giving, gift).
