Gurbani Word Of The Day: kaamree

ਕਾਮਰੀ (kaamree)

Meaning: noun: Blanket, coarse blanket.

Quote:

peesan pees  oḍh kaamree   sukh man saňtokhaae.
aiso raaj na kitai kaaj   jit nah triptaae.
Even while grinding corn and wearing a coarse blanket, one can experience peace if the mind attains contentment. A lofty empire is of no use if one never finds satisfaction. -Guru Arjan Sahib, Guru Granth Sahib, 745

Message: Simple pleasures, contented smiles…
What is better? Living simply with contentment or enjoying imperial luxuries with never-ending cravings?

If we are receptive to the Guru’s wisdom, then we will choose the balanced path which leads to joy.

Rather than trying to acquire unlimited wealth with a dissatisfied mind that keeps on asking for more and more, we should learn to find peace and contentment with our lot.

Etymology: Modified from Sanskrit kambal or kambalikaa (woolen blanket or cloth) → Pali kambal/kambleeya → Prakrit kaṁbal → Awadhi kaabree, Assamese/ Gujarati kaamlee; comparable toSindhi kamari and Punjabi kamlee/kamblee (coarse blanket).
