O yogi! This mind is enticed by Maya. It can only get released by contemplating on the Word of the Guru. -Guru Nanak Sahib, Guru Granth Sahib, 908
Message: Audhut or avadhut is a term of address to ascetics or yogis, who believe in getting disconnected from the physical world in order to gain control over their mind and senses.
Guru Nanak instead defines audhut as a person who instead of renouncing the physical connections, renounces vices and is imbued with the love and wisdom of the Divine.
Only when one realises the Creators presence in all and learns to live in His omnipresence at all times, does the mind find stability. Such a person not only liberates himself but also helps others to attain liberation and peace of mind.
Etymology: Modification of audhoot (yogi, ascetic, mendicant) from Sanskrit avadhoot (one who has shaken off the world or common worldly concerns and activities).
