Charpatnath says, O Nanak! Share (your own) true thought or wisdom. -Guru Nanak Sahib, Guru Granth Sahib, 938
Message: Charpatnath is traditionally recognised as one of the most distinguished Siddhas of the Nath tradition. He is one of those yogis whom, according to the janam sakhis, Guru Nanak met on Mount Sumer.
Guru Nanak mentions his name twice in his compositions. However, the reference seems to a contemporary yogi, having a similar name, as Guru Nanak was born much later, in the 15th century.
In the hymn from which this verse is picked, Charpatnath poses this question to Guru Nanak: How is one to get across the world fruitfully, usually compared to an impassable ocean?
The Guru advises: As a lotus and a duck float unaffected by their surroundings in water, so with the mind attuned to the wisdom of the Guru, one swims across the ocean of life successfully.
