Sikh Activist Raises Concern After NCERT Announces to Include Martyrdom Tales of Chaar Sahibzaades in Syllabus

NEW DELHI—The National Council of Educational Research And Technology (India) has announced to include history of martyrdom of Chaar Sahibzaade in its official syllabus. The move has come in response to a campaign initiated by Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) General Secretary Manjinder Singh Sirsa, in which he sought the NCERT to provide relavent information about the Sahibzaade.

The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) is an autonomous organisation of the Government of India that was established on 1 September 1961 as a literary, scientific and charitable Society under the Societies’ Registration Act (Act XXI of 1860).  Textbooks published by NCERT are prescribed by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) from classes I to XI. Around 19 school boards from 14 states have adopted its recommendations throughout India.

Sharing the development with Sikh24, Manjinder Singh Sirsa informed that the NCERT secretary Major Harsh Kumar has informed him by writing a letter that the NCERT’s director has applauded the proposal of including history of incomparable martyrdom of Chaar Sahibzaades in NCERT’s syllabus.

Sirsa added that he had also made appeal to the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in this concern and had asked him to make directions to the concerned authorities.

“We had started this campaign to apprise the next generations about the sacrifices made by Chaar Sahibzaades of Guru Gobind Singh Ji,” Sirsa told Sikh24.

Meanwhile, speaking with Sikh24 earlier today, Sikh activist and intellectual Papalpreet Singh said, “while today we are remembering the martyrdom of the Sahibzaadas, we must also pay close attention to the fact that their sacrifices are soon going to be publicized as services to India.”

Papalpreet Singh was speaking in reference to the NCERT’s recent announcement.  He asked the Sikh Sangat to remain cautious about such moves by Indian organizations.

  1. S. Papalpreet Singh is and Hardeep Singh above are absolutely correct in their assessment . This might be another attempt to distort our history.

  2. We don’t trust Indian Hindutva government & people associated with badals, BJP, & RSS. We don’t trust any History which is not as per sikh principals & recommended & reviewed by sikh scholars.
If this government wants to research they should research about Ganesh, Hanuman, Ram & Krishna.
