FATEHGARH SAHIB, Punjab—Making an important announcement this morning, the SGPC appointed Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh issued an order banning organization of political stages at Fatehgarh Sahib during martyrdom anniversaries of Chhote Sahibzaade and Mata Gujar Kaur Ji.

Giani Gurbachan Singh said that efforts should be made to organize religious stages to apprise Sikh devotees with the great Sikh history. He has expressed concern over the rising trend of using this historic martyrdom day to gain political mileage by the political parties.

Earlier, the Aam Aadmi Party and the Congress had cancelled their plans to hold conference at Fatehgarh Sahib.  Later, the Akali Dal too announced to not hold a conference.

“We don’t know if this edict is valid for future or not, but this is a good sign for this year,” said Jawant Singh, a local resident of Fatehgarh Sahib.  “This year’s vibe is really religious and everything is very peaceful and calming,” he added.

“These are special programs going on at Fatehgarh Sahib.  We are putting a lot of emphasis on Sikh history,” said Jora Singh, a sevadar here.
