ਸਾਂਈ (saaṅee)

Meaning: noun: Lord, Master.

Quote:

tooň kartaa  sachiaar  maiḍaa saaṅee.
jo tau bhaavai soee theesee   jo tooň dehi soee hau paaee.
O Divine! You are the creator (of everything), the source of Truth, and my Master. Whatever pleases You, only that comes to pass; whatever You give, only that can I obtain. -Guru Ram Das, Guru Granth Sahib, 11

Message: The Almighty, the Creator, is the ultimate source of Truth and He is our Master. He watches over His creation and only what He wills comes to pass. As such, we obtain from Him what He gives.

Explanation: He is the ocean of consciousness and to some, He gives His grace. With this gift of consciousness, they become enlightened and more aware of the Divine and His attributes. Through constant remembrance and service to the Divine, they remain close to Him and find peace in their lives.

Others, on account of their self-centredness, remain separate from Him and ultimately lose in the game of life.

It is revealed through Guru-orientation that the world is like a stage. On it, each of us has been given a role assigned by the director, the Divine. We follow His will. Whatever pleases Him takes place. Whatever we receive is in accordance with His will.

Etymology: From Sanskrit svaamin (owner, master; husband) → Pali saamin → Prakrit saami → Apabhransh saahi → Sindhi, Lahndi and Punjabi saaee.
