PATNA, Bihar, India—As per latest developments, the older management committee which was being presided by former SGPC president Avtar Makkar has retaken control over Takht Sri Patna Sahib after legitimacy of the current committee was challenged in the court.  Earlier today, recently appointed General Secretary Charanjit Singh Channi handed over the keys of Takht Sri Patna Sahib to the General Secretary of earlier committee Surjinder Singh.

A Session Court of Patna (Bihar) headed by Justice K.K. Tripathi had on November 7 suspended the newly elected Management Committee of Takht Sri Patna Sahib and reinstated the earlier Management committee headed by the former SGPC President Avtar Makkar.

A Sikh devotee named Amarjit Singh Sammi had challenged the legitimacy of newly constituted Management Committee of Takht Sri Patna Sahib. It is also noteworthy here that the Session Judge of Patna acts as a custodian of the Takht Sri Patna Sahib Management Committee.

It may be recalled here that the Shiromani Akali Dal (Delhi) General Secretary and former Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) President Harvinder Singh Sarna was elected as Takht Sri Patna Sahib Management Committee’s president on September 3.  Ten out of total 11 present members of 15-members Takht Sri Patna Sahib Management Committee had endorsed the name of S. Harvinder Singh Sarna as the new President.
