OTTAWA, Canada—A world first in the western hemisphere, as Jagmeet Singh wins the vote to head the Federal National Democratic Party of Canada – the first Sikh to win such a position.
After much campaigning and lobbying, Jagmeet Singh’s passionate and down-to-earth approachable personality with focus on real people’s issues has won him the leadership for one of Canada’s main three leading parties.
Jagmeet Singh took more than 50% of the national vote and is now the youngest party leader at the age of 38.
Sikh24 once wrote that Jagmeet Singh could very well be a real contender as a Sikh Prime Minister of Canada. Today’s developments take a major step towards that reality.
“I’m officially launching my campaign to be the next prime minister of Canada!” Singh beamed.
“This is not my victory, this is all of your victory.”
Jagmeet Singh is seen as someone with youthful drive and energy, who is reinvigorating politics with a truthful and passionate care for all that is just and right. A genuine care for the common man as his campaign message espoused, “Love & Courage”, which has resonated with people across the country.
The World Sikh Organization, weighed in to voice their words of support as President Mukhbir Singh said, “We would like to congratulate Jagmeet Singh on becoming the next leader of Canada’s NDP. His campaign was inspirational and touched on many issues that are important to Canadians. But beyond just a victory for Jagmeet Singh and the NDP, this is a historical milestone in the story of Sikhs in Canada.”
