Rapist Ram Rahim Appeals Against His Conviction

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—A month after being found guilty of a rape by CBI Courts, the Sirsa Cult Chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim has challenged the verdict in the Punjab & Haryana High Court. Ram Rahim was delivered a 20 years sentence for raping his female disciples by Justice Jagdeep Singh.

Challenging the CBI Court’s verdict in Punjab & Haryana High Court, Gurmeet Ram Rahim’s lawyer has accused the trial Judge of having a biased approach towards the prosecution. He has contended before the court that the factual questions raised by his client Gurmeet Ram Rahim were ignored. He has claimed that the court didn’t interpret the witnesses and evidences of the case properly and manifested a discrimination towards the prosecution.

The defense lawyer has also said that the FIR was registered on the complaint of an undisclosed female disciple and the CBI has kept their identity hidden even after delivering the verdict.

Ram Rahim’s lawyer has also told the Court that the FIR was registered against his client two or three years after the event and a Deputy Superintendent of Police had even told the Court that the FIR was fake but the court didn’t pay it any attention.
