Ex-Jathedar Giani Gurmukh Singh Submits Before Akal Takht’s Panj Pyare

BADHNI KALAN, Punjab—Former SGPC appointed Jathedar of Takht Sri Damdama Sahib Giani Gurmukh Singh on September 12 appeared before the sacked Panj Pyare (five beloved ones of Guru Sahib) of Sri Akal Takht Sahib to present before them his version of events in the unrequested pardon, granted to Gurmeet Ram Rahim by SGPC appointed Takht Jathedars in September 24. This occurred in Gurdwara Sangatsar of village Dala.

The SGPC appointed Takht Jathedars granted the pardon on September 24, 2015, in blasphemy charges for imitating the attire of tenth Sikh master Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji in May, 2007. The pardon was later withdrawn under immense pressure built up by Sikh masses.

Interacting with media after appearing before the Panj Pyare, Giani Gurmukh Singh said that he appeared before the Panj after two years. He added that in April, 2017 he made clear before Sikh devotees that he didn’t play any role like arranging the apology letter for the Sirsa cult chief.

He further shared that his name was aired negatively in this issue by government agencies. He added that he didn’t ever met any anti-Sikh elements and if the entire episode of granting pardon to Sirsa cult chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim is probed thoroughly the truth will reveal this.

On being contacted by Sikh24, the Panj Pyare, namely Bhai Mangal Singh, Bhai Satnam Singh, Bhai Major Singh, Bhai Sukhwinder Singh and Bhai Tirlok Singh said that Giani Gurmukh Singh had appeared before them on October 21, 2015 at Sri Akal Takht Sahib and at that time he was asked to appear before them on October 23, 2015. They added that now Giani Gurmukh has appeared before them after such a long delay, his belated decision is still appreciable.

“We will discuss his side and will take decision according to Sikh tenets”, they added.
