Sevadars outside Gurdwara Sahib attacked by three masked men in Zira

:dateline:Amid ongoing turmoil by Sirsa cult disciples in Punjab, an incident of attack on Sikhs by three masked men has come to fore.

The incident occurred in village Jhanda Bagga Purana of Zira constituency where two Sikhs, who were guarding their local Gurdwara Sahib, were attacked by three masked men in the wee hours of September 1. The Gurdwara had been placing guards at the main gate since the 2015 desecration acts.

While investigations are on, local villagers are speculating that the attackers were affiliated with the Sirsa cult chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim.

“We feel these men came to the Gurdwara todesecrate the Holy Scripture of Sri Guru Granth Sahib. However, when they saw Singhs standing outside by the gate, they had to change their plan. Maybe they were drunk as well,” said Gurpartap Singh, a native of the village.

The case has been reported to the police.

“After finding us sitting on duty of guarding the Gurdwara Sahib, these man started hurling stones on us,” said one of the injured Singhs.

In 2015, were incidents relating to desecration of Guru Granth Sahib came to the fore. Following that, Sikh masses were appealed by the SGPC appointed Akal Takht Sahib Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh to remain vigilant and increase the security of Sikh shrines.
