Rape Charges: Court to Announce Verdict on Gurmeet Ram Rahim on August 25

PANCHKULA, Haryana, India—On August 17, a special court of CBI conducted hearing in a case pertaining to physical assault of a female disciple by Sirsa cult chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim. The debate on the case has been completed and the Court has reserved its verdict for August 25.

Sirsa cult chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim has been asked by the Court to personally appear during hearing of the case scheduled for August 25.

Gurmeet Ram Rahim is facing charges of raping and murdering two female disciples.

In 2002, an anonymous disciple of Sirsa cult chief had apprised the Chief Justice of Punjab & Haryana High Court by writing a letter about how the female disciples were being raped by the Gurmeet Ram Rahim in Sirsa. Later, the Chief Justice had ordered a CBI probe into this case in September 2002.

The CBI had found the allegations true and had filed a chargesheet against Gurmeet Ram Rahim on July 31, 2007. Although the Sirsa cult chief had succeeded in getting bail but the trial of the case was still ongoing.
