BREAKING: Indian Christian Deliberately Vandalizes Sri Guru Granth Sahib

AJNALA, Punjab—The deliberate vandalizing of 13 sacred ‘Angs’ of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, in a village near Ajnala, has been reported. The incident occurred in Gurdwara Mansa Puran Sahib of village Talwandi Bhangwan near Ajnala on August 9.

CCTV footage have revealed that Ranjit Masih, son of Rehmat Masih, who is resident of the same village, vandalized the sacred ‘Angs’ of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, taking advantage of absence of the Granthi in Gurdwara Sahib.

The appointed ‘Granthi’ (Priest) Bhupinder Singh had begun reciting ‘Rehraas Sahib’ in the evening and then noticed that ‘Angs’ 729 to 741 in the holy scripture were torn. Bhupinder Singh immediately notified the Sarpanch, Lambardar and other prominent figures of the village, who in turn contacted the police. On being apprised of the incident, SHO Vipan Kumar and ASI Pargat Singh arrived with police officers and begun investigating.

Masih was arrested by the police party immediately but the police caravan was attacked by 20 to 25 unidentified assailants during the ferrying of Ranjit Masih to the police station. The Ppolice have registered a case against Ranjit Masih under the relevant sections of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the court has sanctioned a two day police remand.

Jathedar Amrik Singh Ajnala, who immediately arrived at the location, expressed concern over the rising incidents of desecration in Punjab. He said that such incidents are being committed at the behest of Indian agencies which are eager to hurt Sikh sentiments.

Meanwhile, the SGPC appointed Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh has announced he is raising the issue with the leader of the of the local Christian community. He has also appealed to the Punjab based Christian clergy to take urgent notice of the incident and help in the prosecution of the culprit.    

SGPC President Prof. Kirpal Singh Badungar has expressed deep concern over this unfortunate incident. Taking on the Administration for failing to stem rising incidents of sacrilege, Prof. Badungar appealed to Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh to take strict measures to control these incidents. He said that he would take up the matter with the Christians Clergy in Punjab to stop communal any possible clash that may occur.  

He has also appealed the Administration to take strict action against Ranjit Masih so set an example for those wishing to commit such crimes.
