Gurbani Word Of The Day: achet

???? (achet)
Meaning: adjective: Unconscious, unaware.

Quote:

e man meriaa too samajh achet iaa?iaa raam.

O my unconscious and ignorant mind! Be aware of the Divine. -Guru Nanak Sahib, Guru Granth Sahib, 1112

Message: Yes, we are ignorant and our mind is unaware of the divinity within it. It is not fully aware of its virtuous potential.

Our mind is too busy and overly indulged in sensuous pleasures and worldly involvements. It is unable to overcome the excessive trap of vices and thus unable to liberate itself from fears and anxiety. It is deprived of spiritual joy and fulfillment.

We need to understand our mind. We need to talk to it.

The verses of this week are motivational examples which will help us in commencing a healthy conversation with the mind.

Let us motivate it to listen to the Gurus call. Only by becoming Guru-centred and serving the Divine, will the mind be able to release itself from its self-imposed bondage.

Etymology: From Sanskrit achetas (unconscious, insensible, imprudent).
