Bombay High Court Asks Publisher Why It Dubbed Sant Bhindranwale As Terrorist

MUMBAI, Maharashtra, India—Acting on the petition moved by a Mumbai based Sikh, Amritpal Singh Khalsa, the High Court has asked the Balbharti Publishers why they dubbed Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale as a terrorist in the textbook of 9th class.  The case came to fore recently as pictures from the book surfaced online.

Deferring the next hearing for four weeks, the Bombay High Court’s bench headed by Justice Anoop Mohta has directed the publisher to lodge his response during next hearing.

Mumbai based Amritpal Singh Khalsa had moved a petition with the Bombay High Court last week seeking deletion of a chapter in a history textbook in which Sant Jarnail Singh Khalsa Bhindranwale has been dubbed as a terrorist. He also sought a direction from the Court to publisher Balbharti to tender an apology to the Sikh community for hurting their religious sentiments and direct the police to register a criminal complaint against the education body.

The Maharashtra Education Board has imposed a textbook of Political Science published by published Balbharti in syllabus of 9th class. Inflammatory words about the great Sikh of 20th century Sant Jarnail Singh Ji Khalsa Bhindranwale can found in the book on pages ranging from 6 to 10.

We need to have a PhD scholar to throw more light on him.

    • No he wasn’t. He was a natural leader for the Sikhs. Sikhi opposes tyranny, that’s why he was targeted by those in power.
