500 Turbans & 600 Free Meals During Sikh Event in Downtown Seattle

SEATTLE, USA—The Sikh Youth Association of Seattle held their 4th Annual Seattle Sikh Turban Day last weekend and received an overwhelming positive response from members of the public.

The outreach event saw over 500 dastars (turbans) tied and over 600 free meals served, as Sikh values were shared throughout the day.

Local Gurdwara Sahibs and Punjabi businesses, including multiple volunteers, came together to support and arrange the awareness event, which saw so many participants engage with the Sikh community, experiencing and sharing in Sikh values and practices.

The success and positive response to the Sikh awareness event comes just months after a Sikh was shot by a racist bigot whilst screaming for the victim to return to his own country.

These types of engagement events, however, serve as an invaluable vehicle for community cohesion and appreciation via the sharing of the altruistic value system within Sikhism. Similar events have been taking place across the globe with similar minded youth engaging with their wider communities.
