PUNJAB, India—The Sikh seminary Damdami Taksal has taken strong notice of the the usage of objectionable language against the great Sikh of 20th century, Sant Jarnail Singh Khalsa Bhindranwale, in the syllabus of 9th classes in Maharashtra. The Maharashtra government has been asked to correct mistake at the earliest, or be ready to face court proceedings.
In the textbook Political Science of the 9th class in Maharashtra, the inflammatory language is seen used on pages 6 to 10.
Speaking with Sikh24, Damdami Taksal chief, Giani Harnam Singh Dhumma said that he has written a letter to the Maharashtra’s Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Education Minister Sri Vinod Tavde and Director of State Bureau of Text Book Board, Dr. Sunil Sagar, to correct the mistake. He added that he has apprised them that Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale was not involved in any criminal activity and there was no record of any FIR against Sant Bhindranwale in the record of the Union Home Ministry and Punjab Police.
Terming the move as an irresponsible act, Baba Dhumma said that the matter would be taken to court if the Maharashtra government didn’t take any action to remove the mistake. He also shared that a four member committee has been constituted in this concern, under the leadership of Supreme Sikh Council’s chairman, S. Jaspal Singh Sidhu.
It is pertinent to note here that Kharar based Hindu activist Navdeep Gupta had made it clear through RTI (Right to Information Act) that no FIR was ever registered against Sant Jarnail Singh Ji Khalsa Bhindranwale. But the mainstream media and government bodies repeatedly attempt to hurt Sikh sentiments by labelling Sant Bhindranwale as a terrorist.
