AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—Amritsar resident Anmolsher Singh, who secured second place in an examination taken by Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) for civil services, was honored with 1500USD, a shawl and a photo of Sri Harmandar Sahib, by the apex Sikh body SGPC on July 16. The SGPC had vowed to honor all who all highest achievers of competitive examinations, that hail from Sikh families.
Speaking with media, the SGPC President Prof. Kirpal Singh Badungar said that by topping the UPSC exam Anmolsher Singh has made the entire Sikh community proud. He added that the SGPC has honored Anmolsher Singh so that the other Sikh students could be inspired in making such achievements.
Sardar Sarabjit Singh, father of Anmolsher Singh, thanked the SGPC for honoring his son. He said that it has become possible only due to the blessings of Sikh master Sri Guru Ram Dass Ji.
The UPSC is India’s central agency, which conducts various exams such as, Civil Services Exam, IFS, NDA, CDS, SCRA. CSE is one the most reputed and toughest exams to pass in India. The number of test takers remains almost 3 to 4 lakh and currently the number of vacancies is only 1100 every year.
