CBI Objects As High Court Extends Bail Of Sikh Genocide Convict Again

NEW DELHI, India—The Delhi High Court has extended the bail period of a retired officer of Indian navy Captain Bhagmal until July 13 a bench headed by Chief Judge Geeta Mittal and Justice Anu Malhotr.

Notably, the Delhi High Court had earlier granted him bail till July 4 on medical grounds but now the bail has been extended again despite the fact that he has already been on bail since March 24.

However, the Central Bureau of Investigation has lodged a sharp protest against the Court’s decision. The CBI has told the Delhi High Court in it’s status report that no serious cause has been mentioned in Captain Bhagmal’s medical reports and even the doctors have clarified that such medical problems (enlarged prostate) are common in his age.

Captain Bhagmal, former Congress councilor Balwan Khokhar, and Girdhari Lal were sentenced to life in a case pertaining to the murder of five members of a family in Raj Nagar area of Delhi Cantonment on November 1, 1984.
