AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—The SGPC has announced to mark the 411th establishment anniversary of supreme Sikh throne Sri Akal Takht Sahib on July 2.
Sri Akal Takht Sahib was founded by the sixth Sikh master Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji on June 15, 1606 (now celebrated on 2 July) and was established as the place from which the spiritual and temporal concerns of the Sikh community could be acted upon.
Akal Takht means the throne of the Immortal and is the highest political institution of the Sikhs. “Akal” means “The Timeless One” – another term for God. “Takht” means “throne” in Persian. Sri Akal Takht Sahib is an impressive building that sits directly in front of the causeway leading to the Golden Temple in Amritsar.
In a press note shared with Sikh24, SGPC’s Secretary S. Avtar Singh has announced that Sri Akhand Path Sahib commenced on June 30 will culminate at 8:30 am in the morning following which the Hazuri Ragis of holiest Sikh shrine will perform melodious Kirtan. Appealing to Sikh masses to attend this historic evening, he further informed that renowned Sikh Kavishars and Dhadis will also address religious discourse on the occasion.
