CHANDIGARH, Punjab—The new Investigation Commission headed by Justice Ranjit Singh, summoned 60 Punjab police officers yesterday, including the Inspector General Paramraj Umranangal. A former Faridkot DC and two serving SSPs have also been summoned by the commission however, the commission is yet to summon suspended Moga SSP Charanjit Sharma who was accused of heading the police team which has opened unprovoked firing on peacefully protesting Sikhs.
Speaking with Sikh24, Justice Ranjit Singh said that the process of examining affidavits was underway. He claimed that he was working with full dedication and honesty to unearth conspirators of the state-wide sacrilege incidents and the killings of two Sikh youth in police firing at Behbal Klan.
After the formation of government in Punjab, Captain Amarinder Singh had annulled the investigation report prepared by Justice Zora Singh by labeling it as inconclusive. Attempting to deliver on its election campaign promise, Captain Amarinder Singh had appointed Justice Ranjit Singh led IC to probe the state-wide desecration incidents occurred during rule of the Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal party) in Punjab. The commission was ordered to probe every desecration incident including the scriptures of other religions.
