1984 Holocaust: Martyrdom anniversary of Shaheed Bhai Balwinder Singh Billa observed at village Chamiari

AJNALA, Punjab—33rd martyrdom anniversary of Shaheed Bhai Balwinder Singh Billa was observed at his native village Chamiari by the Sikh masses. Notably, Shaheed Bhai Balwinder Singh Billa had attained martyrdom on June 1, 1984 while barring entry of Indian army into the holiest Sikh shrine Sri Harmandir Sahib. He was only brother of five sisters.

Following the culmination of Sri Akhand Path Sahib, the Kavishri Jatha of Bhai Malkit Singh Varpal addressed the tales of martyr’s life. He explained in detail how Shaheed Bhai Gurinder Singh Bhola inspired Bhai Balwinder Singh Billa to get baptized and join struggle for Sikh sovereignty.

He explained that Shaheed Bhai Balwinder Singh Billa fell victim to the bullets of Indian army after killing a number of Indian army men.

Addressing the Sikh sangat, former SGPC member S. Mohan Singh Matia also praised the contribution made by Shaheed Bhai Balwinder Singh Billa and his family for achieving Sikh sovereignty. He informed that Shaheed Bhai Harminder Singh Sandhu, who had deployed Bhai Billa on the position where he achieved martyrdom, was also born in Chamiari village.

SGPC’s Secretary S. Gurmeet Singh, S. Baldev Singh Khera (Former manager of Gurdwara Guru Ka Bagh), S. Ranbir Singh, S. Parmpreet Singh, S. Pritpal Singh, S. Manjit Singh and others were also present among the gathering.
