BATHINDA. Punjab—A Bathinda based Court of Civil Judge Parsmeet Rishi has declared S. Balwant Singh Bhullar (father of political Sikh prisoner Prof. Devenderpal Singh Bhullar) dead after 25 years of his abduction by the Punjab police cops. The Court has declared him dead on the ground that no one was able to make any contact with him in the past 7 years.

The Court has pronounced its decision after taking affidavits from Prof. Devenderpal Singh Bhullar and his brother Tejinderpal Singh Bhullar that they had no objection in declaring S. Balwant Singh Bhullar dead by the Court.

As per eyewitness reports, S. Balwant Singh Bhullar was kidnapped by tge Bathinda police from his home in Dyalpura Bhaika on December 12, 1991.  Amongst several eyewitnesses, Mukhtiar Singh had confessed that the police had picked up Prof. Bhullar’s father and later declared him as missing.

It is pertinent to note here that Bibi Upkar Kaur (mother of Prof. Devenderpal Singh Bhullar) had moved a petition in Bathinda Court on January 14, 2013 against police officers for abducting and killing her husband.  Prof. Bhullar’s father, uncle and a friend were abducted and subjected to ‘enforced disappearance’ in December 1991 by Punjab police cops led by ex-DGP Sumedh Saini.

Meanwhile along with extrajudicial murder of his father, Prof. Devender Pal Singh Bhullar was sentenced to death in a case pertaining to a deadly attack on the president of India’s ‘anti-terrorist’ unit, Maninderjit Bitta.  Bitta was employed by the Indian state to employ ruthless force on Sikh youth in Punjab. He was then targeted for his brutality by Sikh freedom fighters during the post 1984 period.

Professor Bhullar was then unjustly arrested as a suspect in the attack, despite simply being an outspoken lecturer in Ludhiana. Since his incarceration, he has been confirmed medically as having dipped into a severe state of mental instability due to his treatment in prison. In June 2015, Prof. Bhullar was transferred to the Central Jail of Amritsar in Punjab by the government, under pressure of the Bapu Surat Singh hunger strike campaign to free illegally held Sikh prisoners. He is currently detained in Amritsar Jail.

  1. Here is a person S.B. S. Bhullar picked up by the police and killed and even the body disappeared everyone knows Mr Sumedh Saini was involved . No action taken against him but was promoted. His son Prof Bhullar was picked up by the police along with two others and sentenced to death for some kind of conspiracy. Here is the tragedy. the two co conspirators of Prof Bhullar were acquitted. Can some one tell us Prof Bhullar was conspiring with who ?. When retd justice of supreme court Mr Katju raised this question with our so called sikh prime minister Manmohan Singh his answer was his hands are tied and he cannot do anything.Father is killed , son spends life time in jail ( Prof Bhullar is still in jail) and Indian govt is certifying some one death certificate as if this will do justice to the crimes committed by the Govt. Shame on the govt and the persons like Harinder.

  4. Will rulers of India ever think about human rights & behave like civilized people? Why an innocent father was kidnapped & killed & even his body was not given to his relatives? The police did the same with bhuller’s uncle & friend. Some times the land of Gurus, peers & saints became the land of shaitans. Can we hope for the best or it will become worst in coming days?
