:dateline:In the wake of upcoming 33rd anniversary of 1984 holocaust, SGPC President Prof. Kirpal Singh Badungar on May 29 underwent a meeting with President of Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) S. Simranjit Singh Mann at Fatehgarh Sahib. Notably, the Supreme Sikh throne Sri Akal Takht Sahib was demolished by the Indian army by using tanks in June-1984. The whole demolition was carried out under the garb of arresting armed Sikh fighters residing within Sri Akal Takht Sahib’s premises.
In a closed door meeting of about 30 minutes, the duo personalities discussed strategies to keep anniversary program peaceful at Sri Akal Takht Sahib.
Speaking to Sikh24 after meeting, S. Simranjit Singh Mann informed that the SGPC President Prof. Kirpal Singh Badungar has promised to observe martyrdom anniversary on June 6 on a large scale while keeping the environment peaceful.
Later on May 30, Dal Khalsa’s spokesperson S. Kanwarpal Singh also met the SGPC President Prof. Kirpal Singh Badungar at his residence to handover a memorandum to him. The duo leaders expressed concern about the incidents of violence noticed in sanctum sanctorum Sri Harmandir Sahib in past few years.
Speaking to Sikh24, S. Kanwarpal Singh said that the Dal Khalsa had always opposed the internecine clash between Sikh groups especially within the Darbar Sahib�premises. He added that the Dal Khalsa was plaintiff of uniting Sikh community on a single platform against the Indian state and the SGPC president Prof. Kirpal Singh Badungar has promised to cooperate with them.
“We have appealed Prof. Badungar to direct all the state wide Gurdwara managers to offer prayers for the martyrs of 1984’s holocaust on June 6 besides appealing him to install portraits of martyred Sikhs in the basement of Sri Akal Takht Sahib and he has depicted positive response towards our demands” he said.
