Sangat En-route to Hemkumt Sahib in Shock as Two Devotees Found Dead at Govindghat

RISHIKESH, Uttrakhand—Dead bodies of two Sikh women were found at a hotel in Govindghat earlier today by the Chamoli police.  Both, along with their husband were on their way to Hemkunt Sahib from Ambala.  They had arrived at Govindghat late on Monday and checked in at the hotel to rest before continuing their journey to Hemkunt Sahib.

As per police investigations, husband of Jasvir Kaur who is believed to have carried out the double murder left the hotel around 4 AM this morning.  Earlier today, the hotel staff found the room to be locked with no response from the inside.  Police later entered the room and found the two dead bodies in a pool of blood.

“Both ladies have deep cuts on their necks,” Tripti Bhatt, Chamoli superintendent of police said in press statement. “Ambala police have been informed about the incident and they are attempting to trace the whereabouts of the killer.”

The news of the killings also reached Hemkunt Sahib and ardas was performed for the victims.

Gates of sacred Sikh shrine Hemkunt Sahib were reopened on May 25.  An estimated 6,000 devotees arrived here on the first day.

Situated at altitude of 15197 feet, Sri Hemkunt Sahib is a Sikh shrine in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, India. It is devoted to Guru Gobind Singh (1666–1708), the tenth Sikh master, and finds mention in Dasam Granth, a work dictated by Guru Sahib himself. With its setting of a glacial lake surrounded by seven mountain peaks, each adorned by a Nishan Sahib on its cliff.
