Ludhiana Court acquits Bhai Harminder Singh Mintu in ammunition recovery case

LUDHIANA, Punjab—The Session Court of Ludhiana on April 27 acquitted political Sikh prisoner Bhai Harminder Singh in an ammunition recovery case. The case pertains to recovery of ammunition from a car near Halwara Air Force base on January 24, 2010. The Police had registered an FIR No. 8/2010 under sections 4 & 5 of Explosives Act on the same day.

Initially, Bhai Bakhshish Singh, Bhai Harjant Singh, Bhai Jasvir Singh Manki and Bhai Pargat Singh were framed in this case but later the Police had attached Bhai Harminder Singh Mintu by indicting him under charges 120-B (Criminal Conspiracy) of Indian Penal Code.

Speaking with Sikh24, Advocate Jaspal Singh Manjhpur informed that the other accused were acquitted by the Court in this case in 2013 and now the Court has also acquitted Bhai Harminder Singh Mintu.   

It may be recalled here that the alleged Khalistan Liberation Force Chief, Bhai Harminder Singh Mintu had fled from Nabha Jail on November 27, 2016 along with other prisoners. The escape was reportedly planned and carried out by accomplices of the renowned gangsters to oust them from prison. However, the Police had arrested Bhai Mintu within 24 hours of his escape from jail.
