KURUKSHETRA, Haryana, India—President of Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhik Committee Jagdish Singh Jhinda has announced to launch a political forum to challenge the Parkash Badal led Shiromani Akali Dal. Formal announcement in this regard has been made but publicly its constitution will be announced on August 15 at Sri Akal Takht Sahib.

Speaking with Sikh24, Jagdish Singh Jhinda said that the new political forum will represent the worldwide Sikh masses. Refusing to share concrete details of the new political outfit, Jhinda said that the name will be finalized in a meeting of five member committee. He indicated that the word Shiromani Akali Dal will also be included in the name of new outfit.  He informed that suggestions regarding this have been sought from 10 District Presidents of HSGPC but these officials have conferred him the right to constitute new political outfit.

Jagdish Singh Jhinda informed that the units of new political outfit will be erected in 9 states of India, including Punjab.  Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Delhi, Uttarakhand, Jammu & Kashmir will be the states included from India.  “Names of Presidents of these state units will also be announced on the same day of publicaly announcing the constitution of new political outfit,” he added.

He informed Sikh24 that the units of this new political outfit will also be erected in America, Canada, Australia, England, Italy, New Zealand, German and Spain.

Jagdish Singh Jhinda further said that the political outfit will also field candidates from all the 41 seats of Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhik Committee’s election.  “Only those candidates who have good proficiency in Punjabi and who are living life as per Sikh tenets will be fielded by the new political outfit,” he added.

It may be recalled here that the Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhik Committee was constituted by Bhupinder Singh Hooda led Congress government of Haryana on July 11, 2014. Before the constitution of the HSGPC, all Gurdwaras and SGPC institutions in the state were handled by SGPC, which has headquarters in Sri Amritsar.  SGPC claims that HSGPC’s formation was unconstitutional as per the All India Gurdwara Act of 1925.  It has since challenged HSGPC’s existence by moving a petition in the court.  SGPC has refused to grant keys to various Gurdwaras in Haryana to HSGPC, even though it was given legal status by Haryana Government.

SGPC claims that only Union Government of India has the right to establish Gurdwara Management Committees.

Due to his involvement with the HSGPC, Jhinda was excommunicated by SGPC appointed Takht Jathedars.  However, just two weeks ago, Sarbat Khalsa Jathedars appointed in 2015 revoked his excommunication.
