Indore Gurdwara Demolition: SGPC Constitutes Panel To Probe Incident

AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—The Apex Sikh body Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhik Committee has constituted a three member committee to probe the incident of demolition of Gurdwara Sahib by the Indore Municipal Corporation (Madhya Pradesh). Notably, the BJP ruled Municipal Corporation of Indore had forcibly demolished Gurdwara Kartar Kirtan Sahib in Indore on April 22.

Interacting with media on April 25, SGPC President Prof. Kirpal Singh Badungar said that SGPC executive member Surjit singh Bhittewad, SGPC member Rajinder Singh Mehta and additional secretary (Dharam Parchar) Balwinder Singh Kahlwan have been appointed in the committee.

“This committee will visit Indore to get first-hand information and will submit a report to the SGPC on the basis of which the SGPC will demand action accordingly,” he said.

Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has also requested his Madhya Pradesh counterpart Shivraj Chauhan to look into the matter relating to demolishing of the Gurdwara Sahib in Indore.  He asked the Indore Chief Minister to take all possible steps to assuage the sentiments of the Sikh community, which had been hurt due to actions of the Municipal Corporation and the police.

According to a spokesperson in the Punjab CM’s office, Captain Amarinder conveyed to his counterpart in Madhya Pradesh his serious concern at the possibility of tensions flaring up in the wake of the incident and urged him to intervene to ensure that the issue is resolved at the earliest.

Meanwhile, in a press note shared with Sikh24, Damdami Taksal Chief Baba Harnam Singh Dhumma has strongly condemned the demolition of Gurdwara Sahib by the Indore Municipal Corporation. He has said that the Sikhs were being treated as second-class citizens in India.

Baba Dhumma further said that the contribution of Sikhs was being recognised and the coins containing Sikh articles were being released in other countries but the Union government of India was demolishing the Sikh shrines. “The move to demolish the Gurdwara Sahib in Indore has deeply hurt the religious sentiments of Sikhs” he added.

  1. Like always, they all showing their concerning stating “Sikh sentiments hurt” etc etc., they will no more from the corrupt rules and it will get brushed under the carpet. Leaving the Sangat to keep fighting back how much they can but no-one will be heard and when protesting in peace they Armed Police will step in and shoot them. Disgusting rulers and what Law [worse than the Mughals] have no shame and respect for Sikhi.
