High Court acquits Bhai Mintu in a UAPA case

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—The Punjab & Haryana High court bench headed by Justice Surinder Gupta acquitted Bhai Harminder Singh Mintu in a case registered against him at Police station of Bhogpur September 28, 2009. The case was registered against Bhai Harminder Singh Mintu under sections 17, 18, 20 of UAPA (Unlawful Activities Prevention Act).

Speaking with Sikh24, Advocate Jaspal Singh Manjhpur informed that Bhai Harminder Singh Mintu was declared proclaimed offender in this case on February 15, 2011. He added that Bhai Mintu was shown arrested on November 7, 2014 from the New Delhi airport and the police had also claimed to have recovered an AK-47 rifle from him.

Advocate Manjhpur further informed that the case was not sent to the Sessions court of Jalandhar despite of presenting FIR by the Police.

“10 other persons in this case have already been acquitted by the Court and now the Court has also acquitted Bhai Mintu,” he added.

Bhai Harminder Singh Mintu had escaped from the Nabha jail on November 27, 2016. He was later nabbed within 24 hours from railway station of Delhi by the Police.
