TALWANDI SABO, Punjab—In an interesting development, the SGPC appointed Jathedar of Takht Sri Damdama Sahib Giani Gurmukh Singh has objected over t

he proceedings on sensitive issues by the Takht Jathedars in closed door meetings. He has said that he would never attend such closed door meetings at any cost.

Giani Gurmukh Singh has further said that he was a ‘Jathedar’ of Sikh panth, not of a particular family. Claiming himself innocent, he has sought appointment of a ‘Maryada Committee’ to probe his role in granting pardon to Sirsa cult chief and Neeldharis.  He has also asked that the committee should probe role of other Jathedars responsible for pardoning Sirsa cult chief.

Meanwhile, the internal sources within Shiromani Akali Dal have informed that Giani Gurmukh Singh was under scanner of party leadership for criticizing the SAD leadership for seeking support of Sirsa cult chief in concluded assembly polls.  Some senior officials of Akali Dal have recommended Party president Sukhbir Badal to relieve Giani Gurmukh Singh from the temporal Sikh post.

Giani Gurmukh Singh had earlier criticized the Parkash Badal led Shiromani Akali Dal by saying that the party has lost its character. Later, he had also tried to prove himself innocent in pardon granted to Sirsa cult chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim on September 24, 2015 because he was accused of acting as a middle man between Takht Jathedars and Gurmeet Ram Rahim.
