Hearing the thunder of the clouds, the pied cuckoos and peacocks sing day and night. Guru Ram Das, Guru Granth Sahib, 1265
Message: The ecstasy of living joyously
Have you seen peacocks screaming and dancing when the clouds thunder during the rainy season?
In the verse above, you can imagine, watch and carefully hear these birds singing in nature. What do they sing?
They joyously sing of their existence and freedom. They are happy with the way nature has created them and provides for them.
So the Guru wants us, the seekers on the path of spiritual journey, to join the company of like-minded wise people and sing the praises of the Creator joyously and with love. And thus he wants us to amass spiritual wealth instead of chasing only worldly riches.
By appreciating and acknowledging the beauty and gifts of nature, we learn to appreciate the Creator who manifests in all people, plants, animals and birds. Let our eyes observe the presence of the Divine in everyone.
