SYL-Canal: AAP Legislators Ask Captain Amarinder Singh to Tackle Anti-Punjab Verdict

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—AAP’s legislators from Bholath and the Chief whip in Punjab, Sukhpal Khaira has asked the Chief Minister of Punjab Captain Amarinder Singh to get ready to chalk out a strategy to save Punjab’s interests if the Supreme Court gives its verdict against Punjab. He said that Captain Amarinder Singh should make prior legal arrangements to tackle the Apex Court verdict against Punjab.

Referring to the Karnataka government stance in the Kaveri River issue, Khaira has said that Captain Amarinder Singh should immediately call special session of the assembly to pass a resolution against SC’s verdict on SYL-Canal issue.

Sukhpal Khaira said that the Punjab was already facing severe water crisis so the state doesn’t have a single drop of water to spare. He added that the Punjab masses won’t let the construction of SYL-canal get completed at any cost.

The Shiromani Akali Dal led Punjab government had already passed a resolution to de-notify the land acquired from farmers to construct SYL-canal. Later, the land was de-notified by the Punjab government back to its owners free of cost. Replying to a petition against Punjab government’s resolution, the Supreme Court had said the SYL-canal will be constructed at any cost.
