As is ones hunger (desire), so is it fulfilled by the all-pervading Master. Nanak! Those who thirst for His vision obtain the Divine or Inner-knower, i.e. they experience Him within themselves. – Guru Arjan Sahib, Guru Granth Sahib, 613

Message:

Hunger for

Its not without coincidence that Guru Nanaks first two principles are to:
Earn honestly (kirat karni) and
Share with those in need (vand ke chhakna).
But what is the ultimate hunger or desire of a devotee?

The Creator is the knower of all hearts.

The deeper our desire for something, the quicker the universe – the source of abundance – fulfills it.

The stronger and determined our intent and focus is, the quicker the universe obliges. Above all desires, the greatest thirst and hunger, the Guru says, is for divine vision – the intense desire to realise the Truth.

Generally we humans have infinite unnecessary wants but lack the hunger and desire for divinity or virtue. All too often, we are distracted by worldly transient pleasures.

Only our intense yearning to meet the Divine will lead us to the path of discovering the Divine.

The path, the road to that end, starts by looking within and having a good mentor, a guide (Gurbani) as well as good company (sangat).

That way we can realise the truth and become contented and confident enough to share with others and help those in need.

Etymology: From Sanskrit bubhukshaa (desire to eat, hunger) ? Prakrit bubhukkhaa/bukkhaa (hunger) ? Sindhi bukh, Lahndi bukh/bhukkh, Punjabi bhukkh, Kumanuni/Awadhi/Hindi/Old Marwari/Gujarati bhookh ? Gurbani bhookh/bhukh.

Summary of the Week:
Entanglement, enticement, addiction, over attachment, and hunger all of these have a core element of bondage.

To combat these, there is a greater need for a conviction for spirituality and enlightenment.

Our thoughts usually lead us astray. Only a rare few yearn for unity with the universal Presence within us.

An endearing act of devotees is to serve or worship the Divine by singing His praises, experiencing His proximity, and serving His creation.

Let us not be entangled with worldly selfish ways and get cut off from our loving Father. Lets be constantly renewed and transformed by aligning and renewing our thoughts with His will.

Joy and love will ensue.

A life is either all spiritual or not spiritual at all. No man can serve two masters. Your life is shaped by the end you live for. You are made in the image of what you desire. Thomas Merton
