Gurbani Word Of The Day: raakhaigaa

ਰਾਖੈਗਾ (raakhaigaa)
Meaning: verb: (He will) protect.

Quote:
ਤੂ ਕਾਹੇ ਡੋਲਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀਆ   ਤੁਧੁ ਰਾਖੈਗਾ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰੁ॥
too kaahe ḍolahi praaṇeeaa   tudh raakhaigaa sirjaṇ-haar.
O human being! Why do you waver (get scared)? The Creator (who has created you) will protect you. – Guru Arjan Sahib, Guru Granth Sahib, 724

Message: A great tree stands tall and firm in its glory. It has deep roots and strong stem to hold its ground. It does not waver because of the strength within.

Are we rock solid inside and out? Or do we falter and waver in stormy times when faced with adversity?

Our lives are spent chasing after materials and possessions that do not fill the hollowness within. What are we doing here and now to satiate our inner self?

If we do not plant the seeds of spirituality in our life, we will not be able to maintain a steady and rock solid foundation to overcome the challenges in life. We will not be equipped to face difficulties.

Indulge in divine knowledge and the gems Gurbani has to offer. Only when we understand and practise divine-orientedness, will we be blessed with the unshakable faith, that the Creator will nourish and protect us. The Divine Parent is magnanimous, gracious and loving. Rooted in His love, remembrance and divine qualities, we will stand tall and firm.

Etymology: From raakhi (to keep, preserve, protect) from Sanskrit rakshati (guards, keeps) → Pali rakkhati → Prakrit rakkhai → Sindhi rakhaṇu, Lahndi rakhaṇ, and Punjabi rakhaṇaa.

Summary of the Week:
We are children of the Creator. We live our life guided by our beliefs and upbringing. As we traverse the paths ahead, we often have to react and decide which particular path to choose.

Let’s imbibe the values which align the Creator and His creation. These values are our true guides.

The Guru’s wisdom offers us the divine sanctuary which ensures calmness and stability in our thoughts and actions. These will map our forthcoming journey and heighten our sense of feeling protected.

Children are often said to be a reflection of their parents. If mankind adopts the goodwill and virtues of the Divine Parent, then all of humanity will feel loved and secure.

Be fearless, doubtless, and revel in the shelter of the Creator.
