1984 Sikh Genocide: SIT challenges bail to Sajjan Kumar in Delhi High Court

NEW DELHI—In a case pertaining to instigating a mob for killing two innocent Sikhs, namely Sohan Singh and his son Avtar Singh in Delhi’s Janakpuri area on November 1 of 1984, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) appointed to re-probe the genocide cases reportedly challenged the anticipatory bail given to Sajjan Kumar by Delhi High Court.

The SIT told the Delhi High Court to cancel Sajjan Kumar’s anticipatory bail as he was also facing similar charges in other cases of Sikh genocide. As per sources, the High Court responded negatively to SIT.

It is notable here that a trial Court of Delhi on January 21 had granted anticipatory bail to Sajjan Kumar on the condition that he will cooperate with the investigation agency and will not emigrate without permission. The court had asked Sajjan Kumar to furnish a personal bond and surety bond of Rs. 100,000.

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) was appointed by Narendra Modi led Union government of India in February 2015 to re-probe the cases of 1984 Sikh genocide. The SIT had considered more than 200 cases worth re-probe but in its two years of tenure it couldn’t even file a single chargesheet against any genocide culprit.

  1. To add insult to injury has anyone figured out how much the Indian govt has spent on the security of Sajjan kumar vs the life of a sikh?

  2. The system is a mockery what is the point of having this law in India cannot bring one culprit to justice. Typical of the Corrupt government and its rulers still trying to protect these gunde…… We Sikhs do not have any faith in the system and we are asking for justice from those who are already involved in mass murder! We need to think again as to how we deal with these gunde……..
