O my Beloved Master! How can one, over whose head You are (i.e. You stretch forth Your hand of protection), suffer in pain? – Guru Arjan Sahib, Guru Granth Sahib, 749
Message: We feel safe when we feel protected. Fearlessness to face challenges in life is heightened if there is an element of protection. We feel empowered and confident when we know that the Divine will guide and protect us.
All we need to do is, lead a righteous life based on guidance enshrined in the Guru Granth Sahib. This verse guides us to have faith in the protective shelter of the Divine.
Always keep Him enshrined in your bosom and live in accordance with the divine will (hukam). An ethical or moral life based on good qualities would enable us to withstand any adversities that life may throw at us.
Etymology: From Sanskrit upari ? Pali upari (above).
