:dateline:Legislator of Jalandhar (cantonment) constituency, Pargat Singh, reportedly barged into the Sangat Darshan Programof Chief Minister Parkash Badal, in his constituency on December 20, and publicly slammed Badal by alerting the crowd of misinformation being spread by ruling Shiromani Akali Dal about the proposed “Solid Waste Management” plant.
Although CM Badal had claimed he would be cancelling the proposed SWMplant but he wouldn’t answer when Pargat Singh demanded a formal notification in this regard.
When MLA (Member of the Punjab Legislative Assembly) Pargat Singh initially tried to enter into Badal’s event, he was opposed by Police officials deployed there. The police officials claimed they weredirectedby the government to refuse him entry, but the MLA lashed out at the Superintendent officer deployed there, saying the Police could not bar an MLA from meeting Chief Minister in his own constituency. Pargat Singh staged a sit-in-strike there for about 20 minutes following which Badal asked the Police officials to bring Pargat into thevenue.
Upon entering the venue, Badal taunted Pargat by saying that he was also here to meet the public. According tosources, Pargat Singh spoke aggressively to the CM and asked him to stop fooling the masses by spreading misinformation about cancelling the SWM plant in his constituency.
When the ruling SAD’s nominated candidate Sarabjit Makkar tried to take over Pargat by saying that the Deputy CM Sukhbir Badal has made announcements in this concern, Pargat immediately demanded an official notification in this regard.
MLA Pargat Singh also dared Badal to visit the site of proposed Solid Waste Management Plant and see the plight of people living there but Badal refused, citing his busy schedule. It is notable here that the site was only 800 meter apart from the location of the event venue.
It may be recalled here that MLA Pargat Singh had quit the Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal’s party) in protest of the proposed plant in village of Jamsher, in his constituency. He was recently inducted into the Congress fold along with Amritsar (East) MLA Dr. Navjot Kaur Sidhu by the All India Congress Committee at New Delhi. The ruling SAD had also faced a revolt by Amritsar (South) MLA Inderbir Singh Bolaria due to proposed plant in his constituency. He was also inducted into Congress party by Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee head Captain Amarinder Singh on the eve of Dussehra this year.
It is pertinent to note here that the toxic chemical dioxin is used to deteriorate the solid waste in the plant. The chemical reactions produce harmful gases that causes cancer of those who inhale them.
