Bhai Resham Singh USA Released From Amritsar Jail

AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—Vice-President of Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) S. Resham Singh USA was released from Amritsar jail on December 19.

Bhai Resham Singh was arrested at Delhi airport on November 4 when he had arrived in India to take part in the Sikh congregation called Sarbat Khalsa that was scheduled for Talwandi Sabo on November 10, 2016.

According to sources, Bhai Resham Singh USA was charged under sedition charges by the Punjab police after Sarbat Khalsa 2015 but at that time he had succeeded in fleeing back to USA. This year he was picked up at Delhi airport after he returned, and was put behind bars at Amritsar Central Jail.

Speaking to Sikh24, S. Jarnail Singh Sakhira (General Secretary of Amritsar unit of Shiromani Akali Dal Amritsar) lashed out at the ruling SAD led Punjab government. Sakhira said that according to law and common sense, an immigrant cannot be booked under sedition charges, but Sukhbir Badal forced the Punjab police to book Bhai Resham Singh, knowing that he was citizen of USA.

    • You probably consider the Geneva convention and the laws prescribing crimes against humanity that are proesecuted in the international criminal court in the Hague as ‘trans national politics’. These are all universal human rights to be able to practise your religion and speak with your extended family members

  1. Yes in no country can Punjab politicians be it Akalis or Congress can go and do their politics in another country.
The politics should be limited to a countries boundary.
Nations indulging in politics of another nation is a characteristic of
    “EMPIRES”

    • Your selective amnesia and hypocrisy are revealed with this absurd statement. Have you forgetten Modi coming to UK to Wembley stadium to address his NRI Hinduvta fans, or his RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat doing the same to ferment RSS ideology amongst NRI Hinduvta audience and get them to lobby on behalf of BJP government policies? The British Govt has already admitted in its cabinet papers that it listened to Indian ambassador who wanted Britain to stop British Sikhs from protesting after 1984 attack on Darbar Sahib and they against the right sof British citizens banned march from Sikhs. Your friend Badal tried to send his emissaries to Canada and USA to get votes but got humiliated by rejection of Sikh sangat there. There are no boundaries between members of the Sikh Panth no matter where they reside in the world and as most of them are of Punjabi descent they have every right to raise their voice when their ancestral Sikh homeland is under threat.

  2. We all need to keep our politics limited to our country of living.
The National forces tend to discourage and are wary of forces and people from other Nations.
Most of the time they are forerunner of an impeding chaos and violence.

    • ‘keep our politics limited to our country of living’. Yes we should all have turned a blind eye and deaf ear to the black people suffering apartheid, after all that was in SOuth Africa, another country on another continent, so why should those human rights and civil liberties prick our conscience, eh? Because we are human beings who have a duty to our fellow human beings to ensure they are being treated humanely. But then again you are the same person who applauds when Amnesty International is told to leave India.
