Punjab Police Abducting Young Sikh After Sarbat Khalsa

AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—While the whole world was beginning preparations to mark 68th World Human Rights Day on December 10, an activist of the Youth Akali Dal Amritsar named Bhai Gursharan Singh Sohal was reportedly abducted by Punjab police in Amritsar. After the slow passage of 36 hours, his family members and friends are still unable to obtain any information on him.

Gursharan Singh was taken from Katra Khazana (on New Jail road) in Amritsar between 8 and 9am in the morning. He was travelling in his ‘Indica’ car which was being driven by his brother.

Gursharan Singh’s brother reported that police in two vehicles stopped their car and asked them to get out. He added that both of them get out of car, assuming this was routine traffic check.

“They manhandled my brother (Gursharan Singh) and threw him into their vehicle after pulling me away”, he added.

On being contacted by Sikh24, a senior member of the Youth Akali Dal Amritsar informed us that they were unable get any information about Gursharan Singh’s abduction. He said that Sohal’s relatives have approached high rank officials of the Punjab police but they all claim to have no knowledge on the matter. He added that efforts were being made to lodge a petition in Punjab & Haryana High Court seeking an investigation.

Two other Sikh youths namely Amandeep Singh and Simarjot Singh were also arrested by the Punjab police but their family members managed to locate where they were being held and pressurize a release. Sources have shared that the Punjab police was targeting the Sikh youths who took part in Sarbat Khalsa 2016 on December 8 at Talwandi Sabo after breaching the police’s perimeter.

  1. India is so great that it attacks minorities and let go free like Sajjan Kumar Jagdish Tytler -which cuckoo land are you living in – you shameless creature go and suck up to Modi the mass murdered and Badals like him. You praise these acts of arresting innocents and you have not learned even one word when M Singh talks in details what India is…..

    • But you support genocide and wish to give God’s blessings to those who have committed it. As a supporter of the RSS which is infamous for its ghar wapsi programme against Christians it is very ironic that you are the telling Sikhs to follow a Christian tenent of ‘turning the other cheek’ when slapped! We are neith Hindus nor Christians but follow the doctrine of Guru Gobind Singh Ji that when you are slapped you react immediately, when reason will not prevail and has been totally exhausted with your oppressor it is just to use force to restrain them. That is why Hinduism survived in Northern India and you have freedom now

    • You’re an Indian spy troll, get lost and stop commenting here we all know you support the Sikh genocide and you don’t care about humanity, you’re a shameless sheep ?

    • India was a great country but has been systematically undermined by people like you who wish it to become an intolerant hegemonous state where religious minorities are supposed to feel content as second class citizens. You and your Hinduvta taliban have totally betrayed the founding principles of egalitarian brotherhood that the likes of Kartar SIngh Sarabha, Bhgat SIngh and Udham SIngh made the supreme sacrifices for. There is still time for you to repent and reclaim India’s sari of honour which you have ripped from her body to wrap yourselves in as a jingoistic flag.

  2. Sarbatt Khalsa needs to have a SOP made by Sikh intellectuals and get it passed by law makers so that it it gets legal sanction.
Then these arrests will not happen.
The problem arises when the purpose of holding Sarbatt Khalsa is not clear when Akali- BJP govt is in power .
The fear of unknown grips the law maintainers of state.

    • What have your ‘law makers’ got to do with the Sarbat Khalsa? The Sarbat Khalsa is the democratic will of the Sikh sangat. Your law makers are the ones who pass laws like TADA and POTA and give state sanction to extra judicial murder and protection to those who commit genocide against Sikhs. Leave the Sikhs alone, stop trying to control us. The Sabat Khalsa should be held whenever Sikhs feel the need and there is hardly a more pressing need when there are repeated and increasing beadbi of our Guru Granth Sahib whilst your Akali BaDal / BJP Government does nothing.

      • All rulers fear the unknown variable.
Sarbatt Khalsa without a Policy in place can be hijacked by forces inimical to interest of Punjab and India
Sarbatt Khalsa need to address all their issues in a Democratic manner without disturbing the peace in Punjab.
I have said bedabi of Guru Granth Sahib is a ploy to disturb the peace in Punjab.

      • The whole point of the Sarbat Khalsa is that it is a democratic exercise. Neither the speakers nor individual members of the sangat can determine beforehand what resolutions and decisions will be made. Matters are discussed, debated freely and robustly and the sangat has a whole gets to decide not trumped leaders with saropas around their necks who are in hoc to outside third parties. That is why you and your Badals and the Hinduvta taliban fear it because unlike the Akali Badal, SGPC (both of which have been infiltrated and are no longer representing Sikh interests) you cannot control what decisions the Sikh masses decide upon. That is called a democratic manner and no one is disturbing the peace in PUnjab except your Badals and their heavy handed attempt to disrupt and abuse the religious and democratic rights of SIkhs to gather and exercise their right to freedom of thought, freedom of association and freedom of religion. All violence has come from the Punjab State with its illegal detention – euphemism they use is one used by the Communist Chinese of ‘protective custody’! – arrest and release without charge, harassment, intimidation and now outright kidnapping and fake encounter disappearance of this Sikh jawan. You cannot claim you believe in democracy when you don’t believe in the obligation to tolerate views different from your own.

      • In a democracy the right way to address any problem is by votes.
No one should form a separate group to decide the fate of rest of people of Punjab.
Lot of decision taken at the Ssrbatt Khalsa meet may not be acceptable to non Sikhs.
This will lead to an divided Punjab.and acrimony among people living in Punjab.
I personally feel that the USA presidential election is a better model to be followed by Sarbatt Khalsa.

You as a non-Sikh and your Hinduvta brethren do not get to ‘vote’ in the democratic workings of the Srabat Khalsa anymore than a Pakisatni gets to vote for the Lok Sahbha – what do you not understand about that? There are lots of things in Hindu religion which are highly objectionable and offensive even to Sikhs such as your belief in multiple Gods and Goddesses, belief in caste system and animal worship but we Sikhs do get get right of veto over your religious affairs. You even force your ideological matters upon us such as ban on cow slaughter and for many decades we had to marry under the Hindu Marriage Act when Muslims and Christians had their own act recognising that they were a different religion. The Sarbat Khalsa was and is democratic and peaceful but your repeated attempts to block are non-democratic, violent and indeed unlawful as you breaking our rights to freedom of assembly, freedom of speech and freedom to practice our religion.

      • As for ‘should not form a separate group to decide the fate of rest of people of Punjab’ have you forgotten that Punjabi Hindus did exactly that in 1966 when they demanded and got referendum on their right to self determination and cleaved Punjab in two to go off and form Haryana? Amnesia on that as well as 1984 genocide? The Sikhs are of course a separate group because they are a separate religion to yours. Also the US Presidential election resulted in Donald Trump winning and he represents the exact same strain of populism – rejection of status quo and vested interests – that you are trying to prevent by stopping the Sarbat Khalsa! We do not want your puppets Badals or Amarinder or any of you Hinduvta taliban trying to rule us through our religion. Behave properly and learn the art of peaceful co-existence.

      • The way to take any decision for Punjab is by Democratic means which includes every one who resides in Punjab.
It will be otherwise called a theocracy and can lead to its own set of problems.

      • I would remind you that under the ‘theocracy’ of the Khalsa Raj State of Maharajah Ranjit Singh the Punjab was more prosperous, peaceful and socially cohesive than in any time of its history exactly because of the egalitarian principles of Sikh theology. Under Indina democracy the Punjab has seen the attack on Darbar Sahib, the slaughter of Sikhs in their tens of thousands (not to mention extra judicial murders, disappearances, rapes), the greatest corruption, the greatest pollution and theft of its water, the highest level of female infoeticide. But anyway you should not keep hiding behind the word ‘democracy’ as you don;t believe in its principles of free speech, free association and freedom of religion. In fact you are performing all sorts of contortions to try and justify institutionilsed prejudice against Sikhs. On the one hand you say the minorities must not give way to the majority (the Sikhs are the majority population in their Sikh homeland and heartland of Punjab) but on the other you say absolutely the minorities must give way to the majority (majority population of India is Hindu). It is a cynical hypocritical stance designed to ensure that Hinduvta thinking is dominant. By the prejudicial logic you are applying to the Sarbat Khalsa the Sikhs, Muslims and Christians residing in India should analogously have the right of veto to ban the Hindu Kumbh Mela as that is a non-egalitarian religious gathering that actively promotes casteism (the Brahmins will not have Dalits near them), religious superiority, ultra nationalism (see the stalls and rallies held there by the RSS and SHiv Sena walking around recruiting from the masses to their extremist radical views which are in opposition to the rights of other religions), high levels of crime (see the figures for theft), high levels of public disorder (historically the mela has seen violent clashes between its attending sects and in recent years there have been repeated incidents of stampedes leading to loos of life in direct contrast to the Sarbat Khalsa where ther ehave been no outbreaks of violence from the attendees or stampedes) which costs crores of public money which could be better on education and health programmes, high levels of pollution (the river is inunduated with millions of extra tonnes of human excrement during the mela), high risk of public health (diseases spread by close proximity of millions of people as well as the drinking and bathing water borne diseases) and of course the propagation of a theological message which is inimical to the monotheistic religions of SIkhism, ISlam and Christianity. Are you going to give us minorities the veto over banning the Kumbh Mela. No. You just want to trample on the religious rights and freedoms of the Sikhs so please don’t hide behind the word democracy especially when in Punjab that allows the ruling parties to arbitrality arrest and harrass anybody they like, stone the cars of opposition leaders and when the electoral coimmision itself reported over seven lakh “ghost” voters of the total 1.9 crore voters had been detected in Punjab in the period between March and October 2015 alone let alone up to now (figures not available). It was for the first time in the electoral history of Punjab that such a large number of fake voters had surfaced in a brief period of eight months — March till October-end 2015. The Election Commission was forced to go in for mass deletion of such votes. In the past, the Election Commission used to delete around 1.5 lakh votes in a year mainly on account of death or migration of voters to other states.

      • What ever you decide it should include every resident of Punjab.
The leaders should make Punjab into a utopian state and its citizens into a model citizens.

      • One way could be that Sarbatt Khalsa should hold its meeting in a board like manner of many corporates and have its resolution adopted and given to the govt of Punjab and India for its adoption and implementation.

  3. When this violation of human rights going to end.Time has come for Sikh intelligentsia to get together and chalk out a way for our survival.

  4. India is evil evil evil evil, the people of Punjab please take pictures of the police station and everyone involved in this shameless act of state terrorism and expose these shameless unlawful people who are kidnapping Sikh youth in Punjab! EXPOSE THESE INHUMANE CREATURES BEFORE THEY KILL THE YOUTH IN FAKE ENCOUNTERS. Spread the news everyone!
