PAKISTAN—The Pakistan government has decreed that no Muslim may enter a Pakistani Gurdwara Sahib, without express security clearance from the government.

Whilst Hindus and Christians are free to enter, the security stipulations appears to be in effect due to security concerns, according to an unnamed government official.

The surprise move, since Gurdwara Sahibs are open to one and all, hence the four entrances to a parkarma (courtyard), has not, so far, received any complaints.

There are now police security personnel allocated to the each of the entrances to most of the historical Gurdwara Sahibs in Pakistan.

  1. This order should be rejected at all levels. No one is prohibited from entering a gurudwara’s. There are only few simple conditions like cover one’s head, no shoes or tobacco or alcoholic products etc and these can be posted at the entrance of the gurudwara building.
