On November 20, Gurpreet Singh had to write an exam for a job vacancy, however, he was forced to remove hiskirpan andkaraby the security guards at entrance of Examination centre in Yamunanagar.

Later after the incident, Gurpreet Singh spoke with Sikh24 and provided details of the incident. He informed that he was forced to remove his articles of faith when he had gone to attend the examination. ”They did not allow me to take the exam and said that I must remove the kirpan and karaif I wanted to enter the examination hall,” said Gupreet Singh.

He added that he was also humiliated by the officials present at the examination centre. ”I have lodged a complaint against the staff of Examination centre at the Chief Minister Grievances Window. If there’s a need, I won’t refrain from approaching thecourt if not availed Justice by the Chief Minister,” he added.

Gurpreet Singh said that such humiliating incidents have been inclining rapidly from last few years. ”In Haryana, the incidents have been inclining dramatically since the Bhartiya Janata Party has formed state government in Haryana under leadership of Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar,” he added.

  1. It’s unbeleivable to see the misguided & religious hate being spewed by all of you in the comments. All of you NRI’s which have absoloutely no clue about the respect every Sikh enjoys in every part of this country (by Hindus especially!) and overlook it for the odd few incidents in this large 1.25 billion pop! One incident like this by a security person who probably has no knowledge of the significant importance & all of you maniacs jump “Sikhs in India being discriminated” & “hindus disgust me”. Wow, horrific attitude. Here we are, living like brothers & I mean that literally & your narrow mindsets disgust me as a Sikhi. I’ve only stumbled upon this website somehow, and MISS KAUR there is utterly something wrong with you to stoop such low. Discrimination is common in India, ranging from Student life to Business, from language to caste, but it’s guaranteed, Sikhs are amongst those least experiencing this for every knowledgable person here (people know our history), whether your in Kashmir or Tamil Nad. Put aside 1984, which was utterly callous, this article & context is about something else & once u put that aside, realise we have the almost identical philosophical principles to our Hindus (not the extremists).

    • Sikhs are being prevented from sittign examinations because of their religious faith. Again after this happened before in Haryana which was once part of Sikh homeland and heartland of Punjab so have no excuse of ignorance. Don’t you understand the gravity of this. A Sikh is being discriminated against for openly following the tenets of his faith which is a violation of his religious rights and civil liberties. It is NOT one incident by a secuirty person as you put it as it has happened before in haryana just lasy year with Haryana Staff selection commission officers stopping two Sikhs Karamvir Singh and Sukhvinder Singh from sitting a patwari examination unless they removed their kirpans and kara. The fact that you don’t know this just shows how much of a ‘Sikh’ you truly are so please don’t chest beat. You are quite happy for Sikhs to be denied their religious rights – one is too many let alone thousands even in a population of a billion. Don’t you know the Khalsa was created because Sikhs were being denied the right to practice their religion without intimidation and violence directed against them? Who are you as a supposed Sikh to counter Guru Gobind Singh Ji and tell Sikhs it is okay if a few of your brethren are discriminated against, persecuted or even killed. You are not a Sikh so stop pretending ‘Gurvinder’ or ‘Harinder’ or whatever RSS appellation you have been given. Of course we do not blame all Hindus and we readily acknowledge there is a familial bond between us but we have also to recognise that that bond has been put under severe strain by Hinduvta elements intent upon undermining Sikhs and Sikhi. I you are braindwashed into not understanding that or are too ignorant to care or are an imposter posing as a SIkh all show a horrific attitude. As for your ‘put aside 1984 it was just callous’ let me give you the facts that you wish to put aside. The brutal killing, looting and raping of Sikhs during the November 1984 Sikh Genocide took place in Delhi, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Orissa, Jammu & Kashmir, Chattisgarh, Tripura, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Maharashtra. As per official records over 3000 Sikhs were killed but the fact is, over 30,000 were killed (mostly burnt alive) throughout India and over 2,00,000 were displaced. Hundreds of Sikh women gang raped throughout India by goons, police officers and civil administrators and told that next generation (after rape) will be loyal to Government. Hundreds of Gurdwaras and thousands of Guru Granth Sahibs were burnt and desecrated. Around 300 Sikh soldiers done to death in uniform by fellow soldiers. 120 Sikhs working at the Bokaro Steel Plant Jharkhand thrown alive into burning furnaces.
Children as old as 13 days of age roasted alive on gas stoves in Kanpur and other cities in India. In Agartala, Tripura 40 Sikh families who took refuge in a police station to save their lives were burnt alive in the police station. In Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh 12 Sikhs were hanged from the ceiling at the railway platform. Small children killed ruthlessly by pulling their legs apart whil their mothers being raped.
In Haryana and Madhya Pradesh Sikh women taken into hostage and raped during November 1984, still held in captivity by the goons. Sikh women taken from refugee camps and raped even after November 6, 1984. Sikhs on public roads burnt alive, dragged out from trains and lynched on the railway platforms and set on fire Property of Sikhs worth millions was looted and destroyed. Massacre of Sikhs planned in a meeting organized at 24 Akbar Road, New Delhi on October 31, 1984 attended by members of Parliament and senior members of the Congress party including Jagdish Tytler, Sajjan Kumar, Kamal Nath, Dharam Das Shastri, Vasant Sathe, HKL Bhagat, Lalit Makhen, Arjun Das amongst others. State media showed inflammatory speeches and scenes with slogans “Khoon ka badla khoon” (blood for blood) and “Khoon ke chintey sikhon ke ghar tak pahunchni chahiye” (Splashes of blood should reach the doorsteps of Sikhs).
Police commandos from Police headquarters Madhuban, Haryana on the orders of Bhajan Lal, the then Chief Minister of Haryana send to commit the massacre of Sikhs. Expert arsonists and professional goons brought from outside and transported to different areas in Government buses supplied with inflammable materials to burn Sikhs, Sikh houses, businesses and Sikh temples. Police either actively participated in committing the massacre of Sikhs or stood as silent spectators while Sikhs burnt alive. Police even supplied diesel from police jeeps to the arsonists. Police disarmed the Sikhs before mobs attacked them.
No curfew imposed or army called while most of the killings took place. When army called, deliberately designed to be ineffective. We know these facts not just form the witness testimony of Sikh victims despite media blackout and massive intimidation but because of SIKh NRIs, outside charities, NGOs and even the leaked cables form the US embassy and from the cabinet papers of Downing Street so please dont tell us to ignore the importance of the NRI. If anything in the past 30 years Sikh NRIs have become even more vital to helping draw attention and scrutiny to the plight of their Sikh brethren in India and particularly in the Sikh homeland and heartland of Punjab where repeated incidents of beadbi are becoming a new normal. After 25 years the organizers and perpetrators of the Genocide roam free and even enjoy positions of power. None punished for killings of the Sikhs. Ten commissions have failed to bring Justice. Affidavits filed before commissions found lying at the residences of those accused of organizing and committing the massacre. But sustained pressure and support form NRI Sikhs who are in a much stronger poistion financially and in terms of personal safety to ensure that the guilty cannot sleep as comfortably in their beds as you clearly want. Sikhs by standing up for their religious rights are standing up for the religious rights of all Indians – including the Hindus if you bother to understand the supreme sacrifice Guru Tegh Bahadur made for Kashmiri Pandits – so you should be lauding the worldwide SIkh Panth when it says ‘No, this is not right and will not be allowed to go unchallenged’.

    • Also need to address your statement ‘Sikhs enjoy respect in every part of this country (by Hindus especially!)’. If this were true can you explain to me why there is proposal to pass a law to stop jokes being made against Sardars? There were no ‘Santo Banto’ caricatures and ridicule before 1984 against Sikhs who are readily identified by their five kakkars. The dignity and historical martial prowess of a Sikh’s outward appearance have been significantly maligned over the past thirty years plus such that the ordinary man in the street (and it is majority Hindu population after all) can see nothing wrong with stopping a Sikh from entering an examination hall in his dastaar when instead they should be bowing their head in respect every time a Sikh passes to acknowlege the historical debt they owe the Sikhs from the supreme sacrifices made by Guru Tegh Bahadur, the Khalsa’s rescuing of Hindu girls kidnapped by the Afghan to the independence shaheeds of Kartar SIngh Sarabha, Bhagat Singh and Udham SIngh. NRIs are part of the Sikh Panth and have every right and indeed duty to remind people like you who want to label them ‘maniacs’ when they vent their frustration and indignation at abuses and injustices being perpetrated against their Sikh brethren. You say discrimination is common in India as if that should be accepted by a Sikh. Sikhs oppose discrimination against anyone and everyone and if you were a Sikh you would be outraged that such incidents go on without raising a voice. It is your narrow mindset that you should be trying to address.

    • Bollywood films depict Sikhs in bad manner, everyday jokes about 12 o clock, the denial for justice for Sikhs, tv shows discriminate against turban wearing Sikhs etc… after darabar Sahib attack the army lifted curfew for some Hindu families in Amritsar and they came and laughed at the Sikhs who were arrested and they did bhangra and gave out ladoos and they were praising the soldiers for killing Sikhs and attacking darabar sahib…. if this long disgusting racist mentality against the beautiful followers of baba Nanak did not exist, then why do all these things happen to Sikh and continue to happen??? Gurvinder you losers how Dare you say I went to a low, I speak the truth about disgusting discriminatory India and obviously India doesn’t only discriminate against Sikhs but get your dumb ego out of your head and admit that people in India, not all, but many are anti-Sikh

    • Please educate yourself Gurvi!! Sikhs protected india for hundreds of years from invaders that poured in from the Kyber Pass. Continued to die in an absurdly high percentage for their population in all wars from WW I to the India Pakistan conflicts. Had their ancestoral lands carved in half. Then the tiny state of Punjab is carved again to make surrounding states. The river waters are looted from 1947. Industry is prevented from being established in Punjab. Corrupt stooge politicians like Zail Singh, the Badalass regime, are propped up as tokens of Sikh representation. GENOCIDE 1984 GENOCIDE 1984 GENOCIDE 1984 GENOCIDE 1984 GENOCIDE 1984 GENOCIDE 1984 GENOCIDE 1984 GENOCIDE 1984 GENOCIDE 1984 GENOCIDE 1984 GENOCIDE 1984 GENOCIDE 1984 GENOCIDE 1984 GENOCIDE 1984 GENOCIDE 1984 GENOCIDE 1984 GENOCIDE 1984 GENOCIDE 1984 GENOCIDE 1984 GENOCIDE 1984 GENOCIDE 1984 GENOCIDE 1984 GENOCIDE 1984 GENOCIDE 1984 GENOCIDE 1984 GENOCIDE 1984 GENOCIDE 1984 GENOCIDE 1984 GENOCIDE 1984 GENOCIDE 1984 GENOCIDE 1984 GENOCIDE 1984 GENOCIDE 1984 GENOCIDE 1984 GENOCIDE 1984 GENOCIDE 1984 GENOCIDE 1984 GENOCIDE 1984 GENOCIDE 1984 GENOCIDE 1984 GENOCIDE 1984 GENOCIDE 1984 GENOCIDE 1984 GENOCIDE 1984 GENOCIDE 1984 GENOCIDE 1984 Sajjan Kumar, Jagshit Titler. still walking around enjoying government positions. F**K INDIA.

  2. Discrimination is Indian’s first policy…. Harinder is gone in hiding now – He will not condemn this as this is want he and his RSS Hindus want. They took away Haryana and now making their own rules – Bhai Ji as you say why did not ban the Kirpans when Ahmed Shah Abudalli was taking their girls and wealth out of India! These Hindus disgust me……

  3. Outrageous discrimination and persecution of Sikhs in Haryana (artificially created out of Sikh homeland and heartland of Punjab) again when they have repeatedly done this offence! And where is RSS Harinder’s comment to condemn this? His silence is deafening.

  4. OH YOU EVIL DISGUSTING PEOPLE OF HARYANA WHO BARRED THIS MAN FROM TAKING HIS EXAMINATION BECAUSE HE IS A GURSIKH, WHERE WERE YOU COWARDS WHEN MOGULS INVADED PUNJAB? DID YOU WANT TO BAN GURSIKHS THEN? NO BECAUSE YOU COWARDS NEEDED THEM TO FIGHT BATTLES FOR FREEDOM AND NOW YOU NOT LETTING SIKHS TAKE EXAMS, THE HELL WITH YOU BJP PARTY YOU DISGUSTING FACIST NAZI LOVING HINDU FUNDAMENTALISM PARTY ….SOULLESS CREATURES, YOU DISGUST ME, SIKHS IN INDIA ARE BEING DISCRIMINATED AGAINST EVERY SECOND
