(O my mind) by the Gurus grace, see that the temple of God (hari-mandar) is with you (within your body). – Guru Amar Das, Guru Granth Sahib, 1346
Message: Todays verse reveals to us that the temple of God can be found within the human body. Guru Amar Das is telling us that instead of seeking the Divine in the external, material plane, we should look inwards (the transcendental or spiritual realm) to reach His temple.
There is within each of our bodies the same inextinguishable light of Truth, because we are essentially divine in origin and being. According to Sikh faith the individual self is part of the divine Self.
The key point Gurbani is making here is that you must know your self. Life is a journey to that end. Self-realization is the main mission of human life. Self of all selves resides in our heart; the way to it is through building a deep inner, spiritual commitment to divinity. When you find and realize the Divine, the problem of selfishness and its numerous expressions melt away like mist before the sun.
Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom. Aristotle
