SGPC Remains Silent Over Questionable Artwork at Sri Harmandir Sahib

AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—Under the garb of renovation, the SGPC has started inscribing the artwork portraying Hindu deities on the walls of sanctum Sikh shrine Sri Harmandir Sahib. Notably, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhik Committee is the supreme Sikh organization constituted to manage the Sikh shrines.  Due to dominance of some anti-Sikh powers within the SGPC, the Sikh tenets and Sikh shrines were being targeted continuously from long time.

Independent SGPC member and Convener of Singh Sabha (Punjab) S. Hardeep Singh informed Sikh24 that the SGPC has destroyed the earlier floral artwork from the walls of central Sikh shrine under the garb of renovation.  Citing the disappearance of gates of entrance plaza of sanctum sanctorum Sri Darbar Sahib, S. Hardeep Singh alleged that the Sikh religion was being targeted by Hindu radicals in a deliberated way.  These gates had been removed several years ago by the SGPC, however, they have not been put back.

He alleged that the temples around Sri Harmandir Sahib were being emerged deliberately and the pro-Hindu elements were active continuously to project name of Sri Harmandir Sahib as ‘Golden Temple’.

Sikh24 tried to reach SGPC president Avtar Makkar about this issue, however, we were not able to get in touch with him despite multiple efforts.

“These floral paintings will last several decades, in fact, even centuries due to modern techniques.  After a few years, Sikh sangat will forget about the issue and the coming generations will believe that the Harmandir Sahib always had such artwork,” said S. Gurcharan Singh, a notable historian based in Sri Amritsar.  He said the SGPC had committed a blunder by removing the earlier artwork.  “We know that the artwork was fading and colours were coming off, however, instead of fixing the original paintings, SGPC totally erased our history.  Some of the earlier paintings had Gurbani beautifully inscribed over it,” said S. Gurcharan Singh while speaking with Sikh24.

They have to have the courage and integrity to stand up against

  2. A few weeks ago, the Sri Guru Granth Sahib saroop containing the original writing of Guru Gobind Singhji, and which said saroop had a bullet placed in it during operation bluestar, was removed and taken away by the RSS President. It was taken by someone from Damdama Sahib guruduara. When Sikh Channel went to do darshan and gather the news, they were told to do ishnaan (bathe) before they could see the Granth Sahib. Upon their returning to do darshan, after ishnaan, they observed it being taken by the RSS President. They also expressed their intention of removing the other saroops while they drove off.

A few weeks later, we see this change of scenery on Sri Harmendar Saheb’s walls. That do being done silently. Sri Harmendar Sahib belongs to the sikh congregation, locally and worldwide. This is cultural theft being committed by those authorizing the work. Kar Sewa, or any other pretext, does not matter. This is theft of the Sikh culture and heritage. While all countries have rules and regulations to preserve their culture, and are vigilently protecting it, an application should be made to the local courts for an injunction to remedy this situation. This act of painting photographs that are contrary to the teachings of Sri Guru Granth Sahib, is an attack on the local and international Sikh population aimed at destroying the fabric of Sikhism. What next?. THIS SHOULD BE STOPPED IMMEDIATELY.

  3. We need to completely overall SGPC It has to be free from the influence of the i political bosses of the day. They have to have the courage and integrity to stand up against the attacks on our religion. Some time back I saw in a book By Baljit Singh showing statue of Hindu gods established on grounds belonging to our gurudwara in Amritsar.I don’t know what will it take for our community to wake up or we are just digging our own path to extinction.

  4. You can wipe out an entire generation, you can burn their homes to the ground and somehow they’ll still find their way back. But if you destroy their history, you destroy their achievements and it’s as if they never existed. That’s what Hitler did to Jews and this is Hindus wants and or Jews United States and other nations were there to keep their story alive. Sikhs are all alone and without a separate nation no one will notice.
Hinduism is like the boa constrictor of the Indian forests. When a petty enemy appears to worry it, it winds round its opponent, crushes it in its folds, and finally causes it to disappear in its capaciousinterior….Hinduism has embraced Sikhism in its folds; the still comparatively young religion is making a vigorous struggle for life, but its ultimate destruction is, it is apprehended, inevitable without State support. British no matter what protected the Sikhs and Sikhism actually florished under them, it still does. And stupid Sikhs opted for Hindu India despite advises from Britsish Officials and other True Punjabi Hindus and Muslims t have their own country. Now why cry when Chiddiya Chug Gayi Khet.
The last stand was made by Sant Bhindrawale, over 3 hundred Sikhs swore if Sri Harmadar Saab is attacked they will fight the Indian Army only 300 left out of 300,0000. They gave their lives to wake us up. We are still sleeping. Worst the Sikhs in Punjab have become druggies and Sikhs in West doesn’t even know what Sikhi is.
Boa constrictor won. We should accept ourselves as slave race now.
