LUDHIANA, Punjab—Following the passing away of Bhai Joga Singh Khalistani on October 6, his funeral will take place today, October 14, 2016. Family members and Sikh activists had refused to perform Bhai Joga Singh’s final rites until his killers were put behind the bars, however, now as the local officials have agreed to most demands, the funeral will be performed today at 3:00 PM in Chuharpur, Ludhiana.
Bhai Sukhjit Singh Khose and other Sikh leaders have requested Sikh Sangat to arrive in large numbers to pay their final respects to Bhai Joga Singh. “The funeral will take place as per Khalsa traditions. We appeal all Sikh Jathebandis to arrive in large numbers so we can pay our respects to Bhai Joga Singh. He was always steadfast in standing against any anti-Sikh activities. It is our responsibility to do the same for our brother,” Bhai Khose said.
While the officials have agreed to meet most demands, Sikh activists have given a 15 day ultimatum to the Government. Just days after putting fire on Badal’s effigy to observe Dushera, Sikh activists today announced that they will not stop the protest even though the funeral is taking place.
Speaking with Sikh24, Bhai Sukhjit Singh Khose said, “Everyday from 9 AM to sunset, a five member Sikh jatha will hold hunger protest until guilty Sandeep Singh is not arrested by the police. If we don’t see results by October 17, we will announce next course of action and it will be definitely make the situation tough for the Government.”
The announcement by Bhai Khose was made along with other Sikh activists, including Bhai Wasakha Singh, Bibi Paramjit Kaur Khalsa, Bhai Harpal Singh Makhu, Jagseer Singh, Bapu Gurdev Singh and Bhai Nirvair Singh from Gurdwara Parmeshuar Dwar.
Sandeep Singh is a student of Baba Harnaam Singh Dhumma and the main accused in the murder case of Bhai Joga Singh. He has been declared “at large” by the Ludhiana Police.
