:dateline:Family members of Bhai Joga Singh Khalistani, who passed away yesterday, have refused to perform funeral of his dead body. Along with family members, Sikh activists in large numbers are protestingoutside the DMC Hero Heart Hospital in Ludhiana seeking justice for Bhai Joga Singh.
A number of Sikh activists from organizations like Guru Granth Sahib Satkar Committee, Dal Khalsa, Damdami Taksal, Shiromani Akali Dal Amritsar and others have been protesting since yesterday seeking arrest of persons who purposely hit Joga Singh’s motorcycle, leading to severe injuries. These activists want immediate arrest of Kathakar Sandeep Singh, along with 6 others who have been given bail in this case.
Bhai Joga Singh Khalistani passed away yesterdayaround 2 PM. Bhai Joga Singh had been active in the Sikh political scene for past few years. He came to the limelight during the mid-phase of Bapu Surat Singh Khalsas struggle and also played a role inorganizing Sarbat Khalsa 2015. He was seen sitting on the stage behind prominent leaders in Chabba during the November Sarbat Khalsa gathering last year.
Bhai Joga Singh Khalistanis motorcycle was hit from the back by a black colored Innova car near Ludhianain July earlier this year. He was admitted at the DMC Hero Heart hospital in Ludhiana and remained in a critical condition despite being put under supervision of senior medical experts there. He today scrabbled to his injuries which he sustained on his head during the accident.
Bhai Sukhjit Singh Khose said, “Sikh activists and Bhai Joga Singh’s family members are being pressured by the Government to perform the funeral at once. They have told us that culprits will be arrested soon. We will not allow funeral until the Government arrests those responsible for his murder.”
Jaswant Singh Cheema from Shiromani Akali Dal Amritsar said, “Bhai Joga Singh was member of the Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar). Anytime he was arrested, our organization worked to get him released. Even now, until the murderers of Joga Singh are arrested, we will continue our protest.”
Protesters have continued to blame Baba Harnaam Singh Dhumma and Bhai Jasbir Singh Rode for shielding the culprits. They claim that Sandeep Singh is not being arrested due to his relations with Baba Dhumma. However, in a press statement, Baba Harnaam Singh Dhumma said, “We have clarified time after time that Sandeep Singh has no relationship with the Damdami Taksal. We have not had any contact with him for past several months.”
